Archon Group is a global investment firm and affiliate of Goldman Sachs. Headquartered in Irving, Texas, Archon saw the need to consolidate their existing data center operations into a single high quality facility. DFW Consulting Group was hand-picked by the Archon management team to design the data center within the existing facility in Lewisville, Texas.
The existing facility was previously a manufacturing facility for military equipment and required major upgrades to the MEP systems in order to support the new data center. The facility was built to provide a redundant, diversely routed 1 MW electric service support at 90 W/SQFT. The project included two 1 MW emergency generators in an N+1 configuration. The mechanical and electrical infrastructures were designed to achieve Uptime Institute Tier III status. This was achieved by designing a dual and diverse path at medium voltage power to provide two separate power sources. As the facility was not originally designed for a data center, it was uncovered during design that the UPS system batteries would exceed the floor loading of the concrete slab. As a result the battery room required cutting away the existing slab and replacing it with structural slab to meet the demands of the lead acid battery load.
