The federal government knew this project needed high-performance MEP design to deliver a safe and reliable data center that did not break the bank on project budget or monthly expenses. DFW Consulting Group was the firm for the job; we performed a variety of services including the design in order to provide a Tier III+ data center.
The objective for this new data center was to provide a fully operational disaster recovery site. We made recommendations following a “hardening” study which were implemented into a major infrastructure upgrade to convert the facility into a Tier III data center. 3D modeling software was employed to examine the space and determine the parameters of installing this best-in-class data center in the existing office building. In order to validate and test that the required 12kW rack could be cooled by the limited underfloor air cooling systems Computational Fluid Dynamic analysis and simulations were utilized. The existing building management control system was dated and a new integrated system was designed and implemented; the results of which saved the owner $250K and reduced the time-line by 3 months. The project was designed so that no power shutdowns or interruptions occurred.
