Evidence Storage, Crime Lab, & Police Substation
The city desired to renovate a piece of real estate they acquired in a recent foreclosure, which entailed converting an approximately 43,000 SF abandoned grocery store into a police and evidence storage facility. The design required a full MEP rework of the facility.
Power was picked up at the transformer, and re-distributed to the facility via new switchgear and emergency generator back-up. All new panels, wiring, field devices, lighting and lighting controls were provided to accommodate the space and operational requirements of an active police station.
Mechanically, the existing packaged rooftop equipment was replaced with new equipment capable of supporting higher outside air requirements dictated by both modern codes and the need for enhanced air quality within the evidence storage space. Energy Recovery systems and dehumidification systems were leveraged to mitigate the impacts of the large volumes of evidence storage exhaust (noxious, drug laden odors), as well as the moisture generated by large banks of showers in the locker rooms and code required exhaust for the fitness room.
Plumbing renovations consisted of strategic saw cutting and replacement of 50-year-old cast-iron infrastructure, as well as adding provisions for oil separation at the vehicle maintenance area. All new domestic cold water, hot water and water heating equipment was provided to support the new facility layout.
