Village Creek Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) Biosolids Processing Facility

The City of Fort Worth selected Synagro to Design-Build-Operate a new drum drying facility for biosolids management. Synagro utilized the design services of Freese and Nichols and the construction services of Archer Western to provide a comprehensive design team. DFWCGI served as a sub-consultant to Freese and Nichols, and provided Engineer of Recored design and construction administration services for the HVAC and Plumbing design.

The project consisted of an administration area and a process area. The process area was ventilated and freeze protected, while the admin area was conditioned. The plumbing systems included development of a facility fire service, potable domestic water, reclaimed water and non-potable water for various process needs. Natural gas service was designed for the large digester and dryer systems, booster pump systems were designed to support process equipment pressure needs, and specialty drainage design was done to support high temperature effluents with large amounts of particulates. A BMS system was designed that integrated into the campus master SCADA system.

One key strength was our collaborate work approach with an Involved Operator and an active Contractor during design, as this was a design/build contract. Also, our keen understanding of the process systems allowed our design team to smoothly navigate a complex project in a timely manner, resulting in the project coming in on schedule and under budget. Finally, our responsiveness during construction allowed us to adjust systems on the fly to accommodate unforeseen conditions without schedule slippage.
