Panhandle State Hospital
The new Panhandle State Hospital at Amarillo is a new regional 78-bed state psychiatric hospital located in Amarillo, Texas. Over three floors, cut into a sloping grade, the facility contains 78 inpatient beds, shared patient treatment malls, and a hospital-wide patient therapy/downtown area.
Support services include clinical ancillary spaces, administrative services, IT, facilities management, food service areas, and dining. All patient spaces have secure access to the outdoors to support patient and staff experience and tranquility. This new state-of-the-art facility enables a continuum of brain health care in the Texas Panhandle.
The plumbing systems for this facility include sanitary sewer, sanitary vent, grease waste, grease vent, domestic cold water, domestic hot water, domestic hot water return, storm drainage, natural gas, and subsoil drainage systems. The natural gas system is backed up by a vaporized propane system that mimics the burn characteristics of natural gas so that equipment can maintain operations during a natural gas outage.
The domestic water system is supplied by a water softening system that treats the incoming water service within the central plant. The softening system contains a storage tank sized to provide the required water storage in the event of a domestic water outage.
The domestic hot water system is supplied by two 1 million BTUh water heaters and a 1,000-gallon storage tank, which provides hot water to the resident wings, building fixtures, and kitchen.
