100 MW HPC Data Center

A confidential client of DFWCGI had a strategic vision to develop a 100-acre site adjacent to a power substation. DFWCGI designed the first 100-MW building designed for HPC/AI workloads with mechanical systems designed for liquid cooling. The facility has been energized as of February 2025, and

Experience with the Critical Systems You Need for Your Data Center

Critical Power

The seamless operations of critical facility Uninterruptable power supplies (UPSs), Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) and Generators are paramount to critical facility operations, ensuring no downtime. An elegant critical power system design is demanded of the engineering team to ensure both uptime and intuitive operations. DFWCGI takes great pride in our deep working knowledge and skills designing these systems for our clients.

Heat Rejection

The HPC/AI and cryptomining markets has stressed the modern approaches to heat rejection, with increasing rack heat densities straining what can be accomplished with traditional air and coil delivery systems. We have been at the forefront of deploying Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs) for Direct-to-chip cooling of NVIDIA’s technology and single-phase Immersion tanks for ASIC servers. Further, we work daily on systems utilizing back of cabinet active rear cooling doors, as well as traditional CRAHs. The systems we design have an impact on your construction cost, operational PUE, and overall bottom line. We tailor out solutions to meet your needs.

BMS/EPMS/SCADA

Quality control systems are a non-negotiable when developing critical facilities. Real time feedback on system operations, predictive issue identification and rapid issue resolution via the building automation system are expected. Our knowledge of both DDC and PLC based BMS systems for general building controls, SCADA systems for critical power infrastructure control and EPMS systems for overarching power system management allow us to efficiently design your systems with the expectations clearly set out for the contracting team.

Equipment Pre-Purchasing

The supply chain is more stressed for critical system infrastructure components than at any point in history. Global demand has reduced supply, increased cost and extended lead times. Projects take years to execute even when fast tracked. However, without strategic equipment pre-purchase, a long project can be extended by years waiting on generators, transformers and switchgear. We are knowledgeable of critical equipment lead times with the most trusted vendors in the industry and can help you navigate this process with ease.

Fire Suppression/Fire Alarm

Modern datacenters have many challenges due to new technologies, and that is not limited to the MEP systems. Ever evolving battery technologies for the UPS systems have the attention of NFPA, with revisions to the code occurring more frequently, thus impacting design approaches. The ever-increasing value of the servers deployed in these facilities necessitates systems that sense the possibility of fire sooner, alert the owner but do not discharge the fire water immediately, so as to protect the investment. We are experts in these codes and will adeptly design them to protect your investment over-engineering.
